Bursaries for Teaching and Advice Qualifications

As part of the ESF Technical Assistance Engage and Enable Project, funds are being made available to assist individuals, working as practitioners in teaching, learner support or advice giving roles in the Voluntary and Community Sector, to undertake a relevant accredited qualification.

Bursary support is only available to individuals working or volunteering within the Third Sector and for accredited courses delivered by a recognised provider. Courses must be related to a teaching, learner support or advice giving role and can be at any level.

COVER will be administering the bursary scheme but are not responsible for sourcing the provision or providing advice on the course being undertaken.  The learner must ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of the course provider before applying for a bursary.

Bursaries will be offered to meet 90% of the full cost of the qualification up to a maximum value of £500.  Any additional cost must be met by the individual or their employing organisation.

2011 Census Community Advisor Recruitment start on May 17th: These part-time roles may also be of interest to council staff members who are involved in community engagement roles within any department.

About the role: The primary aim of Community Advisors will be to actively engage with specific ethnic groups to raise awareness and understanding of the 2011 Census and to encourage their participation. Community Advisors could already be well-connected within the community or ordinary citizens with a knack for talking to a wide variety of people. Either way, they will need basic conversational skills in certain languages, so they can confidently communicate with their target community. While Community Advisors are based in specific local authorities, they will be available to advise Area Managers in other areas, if required. Roles are available working with the following communities:

Community

Language Requirement

Bangladeshi

Bengali

Black African

Somali, Portuguese, French, Arabic or Yoruba

Black Caribbean

Points to note:

1. All applications must be made via www.censusjobs.co.uk rather than local authority application forms.

2. Applications will be accepted beginning 17 May 2010.

3. All information prospective applicants may need is featured on www.censusjobs.co.uk, so please do not include a Capita phone number when widely promoting census recruitment.

4. The local authority coverage and requirements for each role were provided by ONS. Since the roles line up with local authority boundaries they will be very easy to find via the recruitment website search function.

5. Current and former local authority employees will need to apply through the same process as all other applicants.

Please find the Local Authority Information Pack here, and the Community Advisor Job Description here.
