Hertfordshire Black Police Association
 

The Hertfordshire Black Police Association is a support group for Visible Ethnic Minority Police Officers and Police Staff.   It has been set up within Hertfordshire Constabulary. HBPA intends to benefit everyone in the force, harnessing the experience and expertise of Visible Ethnic Minority staff within Hertfordshire to provide support and contribute to a changing culture.

The Association shall seek to improve the working environment  of black* staff  within the Hertfordshire Police Service, with a view to enhancing the quality of the service to the public.

* Please note that 'black' is used as a term, not denoting skin colour, but as an accepted term used to describe 'Visible Ethnic Minority' people of African, African-Caribbean, Middle-Eastern, Asian or Asian sub-continent origin; who share the common experience to oppose the effect of racism and victimisation.

Our Aims and Objectives
  • Providing a support network
  • Promoting and monitoring the development of equality and diversity within the Constabulary
  • Working closely with the Constabulary and staff associations
  • Promoting the importance of cultural diversity in employment and service delivery issues
  • Working towards improving relations between the Constabulary and people from Visible Ethnic Minority backgrounds
  • Liaising with other Visible Ethnic Minority or relevant organisations/support groups
  • Being instrumental in improving recruitment, retention and progression
  • Assisting in the development of new and existing policies where necessary
